tri·ba·lu·mi·nes·sence
noun
\ˈtrī-bə-ˌlü-mə-ˌne-sən(t)s\
Tribaluminessence is a word that Jaime intentionally created. It is born of wordplay and meaning-making; both playful and serious in its purport.
Tribaluminessence, in a word, expresses the delicate intricacies involved in creating balance through motion and connection, as well as the resilience involved in integrating our wounds on our path to wholeness (healing).
The core quality of Tribaluminessence is light. It is the light that we choose to allow to shine -- individually and in community -- because of (not in spite of) the imperfections and trauma points within us.
Scientific term: triboluminescence
An optical phenomenon wherein light is emitted from a substance as a result of it having been crushed, scratched, rubbed, broken...
Origin:
-tribo- Greek: "to rub"
-lumen- Latin: "light"
-escent- Latin: suffix denoting a developing state or action
It is common for triboluminescent materials to have "impurities, disorder, and defects" (Sweeting, 1998); and these imperfections are thought to be one of the main reasons they shine when crushed, rubbed, broken.
Tribal
Changing the -o- to -a- plays with the concept and reality of connection.
Tribal = communal
Tribaluminessence gathers individuals together who share a common interest in seeking and living a life of balance.
Essence
Changing -escence- to -essence- plays with the power of energy in motion.
-escence- beginning to; becoming
-essence- intrinsic nature
Tribaluminessence catalyzes the exploration, development, and dis-covering of our true nature; it moves us from becoming into being our true nature.
By taking action, engaging in self-inquiry and self-development, embracing our imperfections, and integrating our wounds and trauma points the essence of Self shines.
What? A bullet and a sugar cube?
Check out this video by FPS Outback: an explosive display of trioboluminescence. (P.S. Jaime is not a bullet enthusiast by any measure, but this is a cool demonstration!)
Bang! Shine!
